COPING SKILLS

Do you ever find yourself dealing with situations that cause you to feel anxious, depressed or frustrated and you just can’t seem to move past it?

Are you dealing with issues now or from your past that cause you to feel unbalanced today?

Do you have difficulty in your life or in your relationships and decide to just give up because it’s too difficult to figure out?

Are you having trouble dealing with grief or a loss?

Do you have issues in your relationships and feel like you’re struggling to resolve them?

Do you have trouble communicating your feelings and emotions to others effectively?

Do you struggle with self-image, self-esteem or self-confidence?

Maybe your life has changed and you’re struggling with your new role or purpose.

Maybe you’re dealing with something at this moment that you can’t seem to make sense of or decisions about, despite being successful in the past.

Maybe something or someone is persistently bothering you and despite all of your efforts you can’t stop thinking about it.

If you answered yes or related to any of the above, chances are;

you are in need of coping skills or in need of improvements or changes to your present coping skills.

If this is the case, believe me, you’re not alone!

We all need coping skills to deal with, get through, accept, or move on from something at various times

throughout our lives

and coping skills are essential to make that happen!

Sometimes we have healthy and successful coping skills that guide us through all aspects of life successfully. Sometimes even when we coped well in the past, we experience a situation that causes us difficulty to cope presently despite all efforts. Sometimes we don’t have healthy coping skills for certain situations because there were never opportunities to learn them. And sometimes we don’t have coping skills at all. When we don’t have healthy coping skills or coping skills at all we tend to be stagnant in a life that is unhealthy, unchangeable, and/or undesirable.

So, what exactly are coping skills?

Coping skills (also called coping strategies or coping mechanisms) are tools and techniques that you can learn to utilize in your life situations and relationships to help you better handle the difficult feelings and emotions you may experience in life.

They can also help to decrease stress, improve inner balance, mood, outlook, perspectives, and self.

Life is not all black & white, !!!

There is a gray area that we tend to overlook and in doing so we stay stagnant instead of moving forward...

Learning how to not only see the gray areas, but to embrace them can help you move in the direction you desire. However, it’s not always that simple…sometimes situations in life, such as those mentioned above, cause us to feel negative emotions that can be quite difficult to ignore such as anger, frustration, stress, sadness, anxiety, depression, overwhelmed, unwell or unbalanced. In most cases ignoring is not the answer but learning to accept, cope with or move past them are healthier. Mindfulness-living is about living in the here and now not being stuck in the past or in an emotion that doesn’t allow us to move forward. Coping skills such as these teach us how to better manage ourselves and our lives and can help us achieve desired change and growth towards a healthier way of living.

MINDFUL PIC

Psychotherapy and CBT along with coping skills as part of your therapeutic journey can help to make the changes in life you desire. Coping skills are different for each situation you may be facing, as well as different for each individual using them, which is one reason why I provide therapy tailored to each unique individual. I can help you learn effective coping skills for an array of different situations that may arise throughout life. Additionally, to tailor your journey in a unique and personal way I may also adapt or use your personal skills, talents & interests such as art, music, dance, etc., to inspire growth, healing, relaxation, stress management and change as additional coping skills when appropriate.

Don’t let bumps in the road cause you to end your journey; allow them instead to show you new paths to follow and to be learning experiences for your desired growth and positive change!
