Work is a very important aspect in life for most people. For many people it is the core of basic survival. For some it can even be an integral part of who you are or how you identify as a whole person. Work can have many different meanings to each individual; it can provide income and/or experience, status, standard of living, identity, focus, interest & growth to name just a few. Work can even play an important role in one’s self-esteem and/or self-image. For some it can mean only one of those things and for others a combination of some or even all. These can affect us on many different levels, including physically, emotionally, and mentally. Even more so, work-related problems can affect our physical, emotional, and mental health as well. Work is often a place we spend most of our time and therefore should be a safe and comfortable place to be, not somewhere we dread. When work is or becomes an uncomfortable or unsafe place due to work-related issues it can lead to sleepless nights, difficulties in daily functioning or relationships, anxiety and depression.
Psychotherapy and CBT have both been proven to be the most effective treatments for depression and anxiety, which can be brought on by work-related issues. Additionally, having an objective and professional person to talk to about career or work related issues can help you to gain insight and understanding about your needs, wants and desires, as well as teach you ways of effectively coping with, managing, and achieving them without judgment. As I have shared on previous pages, I use CBT as the basis for my psychotherapy, as well other helpful methods, tools, and strategies tailored to you as a unique individual to help you get complete care, support, and healing throughout your journey in therapy.
Additionally, through Psychotherapy one can learn to:
Better manage symptoms of anxiety or depression they experience as a result of these situations
Cope with or manage workplace issues and conflicts in a healthy way
Develop a better understanding of their wants and/or needs within the workplace or career path
Learn skills, strategies and tools to use for conflict resolutions
Learn skills for communicating and advocating for yourself effectively within the workplace
Gain support and help through the decision making process in any aspect of career/job situations
Gain insight into all things related to transitions and changes related to work/career
Learn skills for balancing all aspects of your work and personal life more effectively
Think about your current job or career, where you are and where you’d like to be, whether or not your choices and decisions have been helping you, and how you’re feeling. If you feel as if you’re struggling with issues in your workplace or position, having difficulty making changes or decisions regarding your work, job, or career, or just need some support and guidance through a new transition, consider psychotherapy to help you get on the right path and thrive!
