A Different View Psychotherapy LCSW PLLC

Unique Therapy for the Unique You!!!

...a place where you will find a therapeutic experience that is as unique as you are!

As a therapist, I tend to make strong connections with my clients, making the experience an enjoyable journey filled with support, compassion, hope, care, acceptance and yes even laughter and light heartedness at times when it is appropriate and needed. I’m an easy going, down to earth, straight forward therapist who treats clients with respect and honesty in a warm, caring manner, free of judgment or bias. Often times, clients have told me that I have a way about me that makes them feel comfortable, accepted and cared for throughout the therapy process and have even told me their experience was better than expected based on common stigmas that exist about therapy and therapists.

As your therapist you will find that:

I meet you where you are at

I inspire change and growth

I help guide you through all areas of life

I help you to have relationships that are mutually beneficial

I guide and encourage self-exploration towards deeper understanding & acceptance

I help with self-identified goals

I help you to achieve emotional well being

I became a therapist partly because of my own issues that I have struggled with throughout my life, but mostly because I know what it's like to struggle with issues and need someone to talk to about them who can help, guide, support & teach better ways of coping without judgment or bias. Many of us lack a good support system in our lives, and many times, even when we do have a support system it doesn't provide the type of help we may want or need (I can relate); therapy and a caring therapist can provide that for you, which is what I wanted to do for others and why I ultimately became a therapist.

Because I have gone through a lot of personal struggles in my life I've had to believe that things could be better for me, so I lived by the philosophy that you don't have to become who you are because of your circumstances or experiences in life...you can become who you want to be despite them. Your life can be what you want it to be, it's your choice and its up to you to create it however you want it to be, by including all you want & need and eliminating all you don't. Write your own lyrics, paint your own picture; be the unique you! I can help you do that through your own unique and personal journey in psychotherapy!

A bit about me personally...

I grew up and lived my whole life on Long Island, NY. I studied psychology at Suffolk Community College; got my Bachelor's of Science Psychology Degree from Maryland University online; and my Master's Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University. During my undergrad and graduate studies I became a bit of an over-achiever and graduated with a 4.0, honors, and Magna Cum Laude; probably because I found psychology so fascinating! I have worked in school settings, community settings and mental health clinics throughout my career as a therapist & I am now fulfilling my dream of practicing privately so that I can give my full attention to my clients in need without having to divert attention towards the necessary extras of working for an institute, organization, clinic or school. I have assessed, diagnosed, and treated an array of diagnoses, personalities, ages and populations throughout my career thus far and I feel that will help me to address any issues, struggles or concerns you may have should you choose to become a client of mine.

When I'm not in my therapist chair, I spend my time listening to my favorite music (I'm an 80's  music, metal/rock girl), dancing, watching my favorite TV shows or movies (I'm a horror fanatic, but love a good comedy or drama too!), cuddling with my cats, relaxing in the sun and pool (when weather permits), reading books  and making creative art including abstract paintings, sculpting, arts & crafts, prop making and Horror Special FX Makeup! In case you couldn't tell, my favorite color is purple! I'm an animal lover (bats, cats, otters & dragons (yes they're real ha ha) are my favorites, but love them all). I also love to travel, go to concerts, see plays, and be in the outdoors. When I'm stressed (that can be quite often!) I try to enjoy one of those things to get my mind relaxed & I also try to make time for meditation with healing crystals, practice breathing exercises, and guided imagery, which are some of my favorite relaxation and stress reduction/management practices.

About Me Casual

A bit of background about my private practice...

I chose the name A Different View Psychotherapy for my private practice for several reasons: First, because it is part of a lyric from one of my favorite songs (Nothing Else Matters) from one of my favorite bands (Metallica); Second, because the words are so powerful and quite frankly echo words I have been and continue to say, teach & share with my clients since the beginning of my career over 19 years ago; and Third, it resembles, in my opinion, the basis of CBT, which is the main method I, and many therapists, use for treatment: it is an evidence based method widely used for helping people to learn, understand and remember that changing the way you look at things can ultimately change anything and everything in the direction you desire. I believe in it so much that I even have it tattooed on my arm (along with my company logo of a triquetra that represents protective & calming elements)! Couple all of that with my philosophy of becoming who you want to be in spite of your struggles and naturally a name for my private practice emerged!

Furthermore, I've been in therapy as a client myself, and I can relate when people are sometimes skeptical about the process or about therapists. I've had personal experiences & have heard about others' personal experiences with therapy and have learned that the most important aspect of the therapy process is choosing the right therapist. Therapy is a relationship & much like other relationships in your life it needs to be comfortable and supportive to be positive & successful! This became the basis for my decision to become a therapist because I've wanted to improve the therapy process for those in need & decrease the fears and stigmas that exist and deter people from getting the help they need & deserve.

When choosing a therapist, you want to find one that addresses the issues you are in need of help with, but you should also look at their personality & their approach to psychotherapy because you should feel comfortable with this person who you will spend a lot of time with working on personal, private & intimate issues. I've been told by clients many times that my personality helps them to feel comfortable, safe, supported & heard. Combine this with my dedication to working hard to treat each client as the unique & individual person they are and tailor their psychotherapy journey in an equally unique & individual way helped A Different View Psychotherapy to be born along with my motto...

Unique Therapy for the Unique You!!!

I sometimes feel psychology & therapy have been deep-rooted in me my whole life, which is probably why I was always the person people came to for help, guidance & support even before I became a therapist...I guess I was just born to be one!
